Chennabasaiah, the sentenced had battered his wife, Putamma, 65, to death on June 27, hours after few of her relatives had visited their home. He was arrested by the police around the same time based on a complaint filed by the victim’s brother Nagbhushan and the information sources they got from the couple’s son, Girish. In his announcement to the police, Girish specified that his father would often get  into fights with Putamma blaming her for cheating him.

The trial of the case started on July 3 and on Saturday, July 7 the court granted the life imprisonment to Chennabasaiah after inspecting 17 witnesses, including Girish. The FSL report too was submitted to the court within a day.

Naming this as a triumph for Indian legal, the SP said that he didn’t know whether this was a record but rather hoped that all cases get deposed as fast as this.
