Aranthodu: Baby elephant stranded after herd falls into pond; cared for by humans

A 3-month-old baby elephant that got separated from its mother after falling into an agricultural pond at the Ajjavara village near Arnathodu is now being cared for by humans.
Two days ago, four elephants of a herd – two adults and two calves – that had come to the village from the forest in search of food. However, the herd lost its way and fell into a pond. The 3-month-old calf was the last to be rescued.
After being rescued, the calf was left in a hilly area for its mother to take away. However, the mother did not return for the baby. The abandoned baby was roaming in the forested areas and has been taken under human care.
The forest department is closely monitoring the situation and providing necessary care to the baby elephant. Being very young, the calf needs its mother’s milk or other supplements to fulfill its nutritional needs. Manjunath, RFO of Sullia, has assured that the calf will receive appropriate treatment and will be shifted to another place for its well-being.
