Assault on New Year’s Eve: ten men arrested

Bengaluru: in connection with the assault on new year’s eve of 2017, Indiraanagar police have arrested ten men after a footage of the incident was released yesterday showing a group of men inhumanely attacking two brother’s and a woman, who happens to be their sister, riding a two-wheeler.
The suspects are identified as Ambareesh, Lokesh, Shekhar, Vinod, Nandeesh, Shakti Prasad, Charan, Chetan and Stephen. Within hours of the video making it to TV news channels, Indiranagar police took up a case and arrested 10 people, including three minors, in connection with the incident. Two of the arrested are rowdysheeters. Police said the assault was captured by two CCTV cameras. The footage showed the dozen drunken gangsters obstructing traffic on the pretext of wishing everyone for the New Year.
The video is said to be released as a result of rivalry between two gangs. In the video it is seen that a group of men are celebrating new years on the main road in Indiranagar when a bike with two men and a woman approaches. When the bike scrapes a little against one of the men in the group quarrel arises. The group then brutally assaults the two men and a person is also seen hitting the woman. The victims are said to be from Darjeeling.
Bengaluru Police Commissioner T Suneel Kumar said that a case of assault and public indecency has been registered against the men.
Further investigation is still in progress to catch the remaining eight attackers. This year the police had increased the security on New Year’s Eve after the incidents of sexual assault in 2017.
