Baje: River claims two lives

Udupi: Two persons including a minor girl drowned at Baje Swarna River near Hiriyadka on Wednesday evening March 27th.

The deceased are identified as Pushpa (48), wife of Krishna, a resident of Baje Mudukangana in Hiriyadka and Ashwini (13), daughter of the couple Manjunath-Sujatha. Pushpa is survived by her husband, son and daughter.

The woman and the minor girl had ventured out into the river water in the evening to wash clothes. Initially, Ashwini lost conscious and fell into the water. Seeing this Pushpa hastened to her rescue, but she too lost conscious and drowned into the water.

The locals, immediately fished the two out of the waters and rushed them to Manipal hospital. However, Pushpa lost her life on the way to the hospital while Ashwini breathed her last at the hospital.

A case has been registered with Hiriyadka police station.
