Mangaluru: Suspicions have once again emerged on the use of the banned Thuraya satellite phones in the coastal areas of the State.
It was reported that the Research and Analysis Wing had detected usage of the satellite phone in the forests of Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada and Udupi districts three times in ten days.
On June 23, 2019, the use of satellite phones at Belthangady in Dakshina Kannada district was suspected.
These satellite phones are likely to be used in connection with terrorist activities. Hence, intelligence agencies are closely monitoring the issue.
“Information on the detection of a satellite phone signal in the Bantwal area has been obtained. Further information will be obtained from ISD officials. Presently I am in the coastal areas and will immediately get the information from the department officials. This is a serious case and it will be probed so,” said Bhaskar Rao, ADGP, Internal Security Division (ISD).
