The government school has been selected as one of the 20 best schools in the country at the sustainability awards program 2021-22. The recognition comes with a Rs 50,000 cash award. Notably, the winning project by the school report was wholly prepared in Kannada.

Wipro Earthian Awards, instituted by the Wipro Foundation, encourages school students to think innovatively on subjects related to the environment and sustainability. Students can choose one or more topics from ‘sustainability and waste management’, ‘sustainability and water’, and ‘sustainability and biodiversity’.

Akash, Karthik, Pranam, and Pritam of Class VIII and Aditya and Nitesh of class VII participated in the contest under the guidance of their teachers Shruti N. and Arvind Kudla. Other students and teachers also supported their activities.

The Moodambailu Government  School chose “sustainability and waste management” as its subject of choice and prepared a project titled “Namma Kasa Namma Hone, Swachchatege Haaku Mane” (Our garbage is our responsibility, Give preference to cleanliness). Students involved themselves in creating useful products from garbage.

The students collected household garbage, old and discarded items, and sorted them out. From the collected waste, they produced several useful articles including mats, pen stands, vases, multi-use bags, eco-bricks, necklaces, dusters, etc. They also distributed pamphlets to raise awareness about responsible garbage disposal.

Aravind Kudla, the Headmaster of the school congratulated the students for their achievement. “This has been achieved with the cooperation of all officials of the education department and the parents of the children. The program has also raised the learning capacity of the children. Wipro Earthian helps us to overcome deficiencies in learning curriculum,” he said.
