Bengaluru: Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has installed a new sewage treatment plant (STP) near Kundalahalli Lake in Whitefield under a joint venture with General Electric (GE).
The plant can treat about 280 KLD of sewage. “GE volunteers noticed that there were many inlets which need to be treated and which will prevent further pollution of the lake,” said Munesh Makhija, CEO – GE India Technology Centre, and CTO GE South Asia.
He added that water level of the lake had increased by six inches in the past 8-10 months which, in turn, had improved the local flora and fauna. GE and United Way will also build six eco-friendly toilets, including one for the differently abled, at the lake.
