Belagavi: State Water Resources Minister Govind Karjol has said that the approval for the Mareguddi lift irrigation project will be given in the next meeting.

Addressing the question asked by Jamakhandi legislator Anand Siddu Nyamegouda during the Question Hour of the Belagavi Winter Session on Tuesday, he responded, “About the lift irrigation project, State PWD Minister C C Patil is requesting me each day. The request will be soon tabled before the tribunal and will get approval for it.”

On allegations made by Congress legislator from Bhalki Assembly Constituency Eshwar Khandre stating that his response wasn’t true, Karjol said, “The government has answered questions as per the authentic documents available in the government office. Within a month, the Kongli irrigation project will be completed, and will call you for the inauguration. The concerned officials are already directed to complete the Manikeshwar and Harnahalli projects soon. Khandre has told that water hasn’t reached four barrages in his constituency. I will talk to the concerned officials and will work on it.”

“A plan is ready to use 1.5 TMC water from the Mekar and Basava Kalyana irrigation projects. I will approve it and direct the officials to start the work”, he added.

Further, he said, “Bidar South Assembly Constituency Bandeppa Kashempur said that we are not using 22.37 TMC water from Godavari basin, but the fact is, we are using it. In several projects being approved, some are completed, while some are still in progress.”

To the questions of Arasikere legislator K M Shivalinge Gowda on filling lakes, Karjol answered, “Seven lakes including Banavara lake will be included under the lake-filling project.

Meanwhile, he also assured of looking into the issues raised by Devanahalli legislator Nisarga Narayanaswamy and Kittur legislator Doddagoudar Mahantesh Basavantaray.
