Bengaluru: Claiming that the reopening of liquor shops in the State has led to an increase in health risks and COVID-19 cases, some non-governmental organisations have urged Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa to shut them again.

A letter written by the NGOs to the Chief Minister states that since the reopening of liquor shops across the State, the health status of people has decreased due to liquor consumption.

It also states that a large number of people queueing for liquor in front of the shops has led to the spread of the virus faster which resulted in the rise in the number of cases after these shops reopening.

The letter claims that the government reopened these shops in their desire to earn revenue and also accused the government of facilitating the faster spread of the virus.
