Bengaluru: In a shocking incident, a woman sustained burn injuries when a liquid substance was thrown from an open window of her house in Nandini Layout police station limits here.

A man, who is a coworker of the victim, has been arrested in the case, police said.

On March 17, 51-year-old Devi, along with her two sons, was sound asleep in her home in Ganesh block of Nandini Layout. To cool off the summer heat, they had left the windows of the bedroom open for the breeze to pass through.

Around 4.30 am when they were asleep, an unidentified person threw an acid-like liquid at Devi from the open window. She woke up when she felt a burning sensation on her face and back. Soon she was rushed to KC General Hospital, from there she was referred to Victoria Hospital for treating the burn injuries.

Devi sustained 20 percent burn injuries in the attack, police said and added that she is still being treated at the Victoria Hospital.

After resigning as a bus conductor in BMTC due to ill-health, Devi had taken up work as a drama artiste. The accused, also a drama artiste, was enraged by the dispute the two had days earlier. He threw the liquid at Devi to exact revenge, police said.

Police said there were doubts about the contents of the liquid used in the attack. The samples have been sent to the forensic laboratory to verify the contents and a complete picture would emerge only after getting the report, they added.
