Bengaluru police arrested a 29-year-old man in connection with the gruesome murder of an elderly woman at her residence in Vinayaka Nagar here earlier this month.
The arrested has been identified as Kishan, a marketing officer at a software company who was the victim Yashodama’s tenant. According to the police, Kishan used a small knife to stab his 75-year-old landlady over 60 times, shut the door and sneaked out of her house.
The next day Kishan called Yashodama’s son and told him that she was lying in a pool of blood. When the son arrived at the crime scene, he was shocked to find blood splattered on the bed and walls.
Another tenant called for an ambulance and she was taken to a nearby hospital where doctors declared her dead. The crime scene meanwhile had been contaminated and with no CCTV footage, the police had a tough case on their hand.
Police investigating the case resorted to their detectives to get a breakthrough in the case. When they finally learnt that Kishan had recently repaid Rs 4-5 lakhs to his lenders they took him for questioning. During the grilling he confessed to the crime.
Police said that Kishan had suffered losses in the stock market and had taken loans from few people. He had also taken around Rs 40,000 from Yashodama. On July 1 and 2, they had an argument after Yashodama had asked Kishan to repay the loan. In a fit of rage, Kishan stabbed Yashodama and then robbed her jewellery with the intention of selling it and using the proceeds to settle his loans.
