Bengaluru: A body of Hindu priests has appealed to the Karnataka government to ban the use of mobile phones on temple premises.

Akhila Karnataka Hindu Devasthana Archakars – Agamikars and Upadhivantars Union has requested the religious endowment department (Muzrai Department) to pass on the order to this effect in temples under its jurisdiction.

A delegation of the union led by its president K S Dikshit met Karnataka Minister for Muzarai, Haj and Wakf, Shashikala Jolle on Saturday. The delegation told the minister that the obscene ringtones of the mobile phones in the midst of rituals create nuisance in the tranquil places of worship.

People visiting temples were also seen clicking photos of girls and women who visit these places for pious intentions.

In addition, people also click photos of Garbha Gudi (Sanctum Sanctorum), during Puja, and Homas-Havans also vitiate the religious practices of the temples.

For these pertinent reasons, the priests requested the minister to direct officials to ban mobile phones in temple premises.
