Body of nine-year old Nidhi found

Udupi: The body of a girl who drowned in the waters yesterday on Tuesday was found here today.

The deceased has been identified as Nidhi Acharya (9) was returning from school along with her sister Nisha (12) when the incident occured.

It has been learnt that, the two sisters were on their way back home from school by Nisha’s bicycle when they were washed away while crossing the minor bridge at Padebettu, Patla in Padubidri here.

Police, fire personnel and locals were involved in the search operation to trace the body.

Deputy commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis visited the spot and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lac for the bereaved family.

A case has been registered in Padubidri police station.
