Belagavi: B S Yeddyurappa mixed up a significant contention on Saturday, May 5 when he exhorted party workers to tie the hands and legs of ‘non-voters’ and influence them to practice their vote for BJP candidates, which is in stark contrast to the principles of free and fair elections laid down in our Constitution.
Tending to an election rally in the Belagavi, BSY stated, “Go to each house and on the off chance that you discover individuals who would prefer not to vote, tie their hands and legs and carry them to the election booths to vote in favor of Mahantesh.” Mahantesh Basavantrai Doddagoudar is the BJP candidate from the Kittur body electorate.
The video of BSY’s speech has been generally shared via social media stages and has evoked sharp feedback from the Congress and in addition different segments of the general public.
“A defeatist BJP facing rejection at the hands of Kannadigas is threatening voters in frustration. Mr Yeddyurappa, insulting democracy and intimidating voters will trounce the BJP decisively,” tweeted Congress representative Randeep Surjewala in light of the video.
