New Delhi: A set of Chennapatna toys from Karnataka is the latest gift, the young prince of Bhutan Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck, received on his maiden tour to India. Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday gifted a set of Chennapatna toys to the one-and-a-half-year-old child of Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck.

“With His Majesty the King, the Queen & the adorable young Prince of Bhutan. Happy to see HM the Prince like the Chennapatna (Karnataka) toys,” tweeted Defence Minister. Sitharaman is a member of the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka. The minister also posted on Twitter pictures of her with the young prince, clad in Bhutan’s national dress Gho, and his parents, the King and Queen Pema Jetsun.

The crown prince and the heir apparent of the tiny Himalayan Kingdom earlier received an official football from the FIFA U-17 World Cup and a chess set from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who hosted a dinner for the royal couple at his official residence in 7 Lok Kalyan Marg on Wednesday. The child has been at the centre of attention ever since he landed in New Delhi with his parents on Tuesday for his first visit to India.

Making a special gesture, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj herself went to the airport to receive the royal family. A picture of Swaraj holding the hand of the little prince at the airport went viral on social media.
