Udupi: Many significant decisions were taken at the Udupi district progress review meeting held on Monday at the zilla panchayat here and presided by district in-charge minister Basavaraj Bommai.
As a precautionary measure against COVID-19’s third wave, ICU wards for children will be set up at district and taluk hospitals.
Bommai announced that the State Disaster Response Unit (SDRF) unit would be shifted to Udupi from Mangaluru as both the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the SDRF are presently located in Mangaluru.
He also said that the government has decided to completely take over the Koosamma Shambhu Shetty Memorial Haji Abdullah Mother & Child Hospital at Udupi.
“Establishment of oxygen production plants in district and taluk hospitals using CRS fund should commence before the end of July. 30 ICU beds should be developed in the district hospital and 10 each in taluk hospitals. At least five of these should be for children,” the minister instructed.
“10,000 doses of vaccine is being distributed at Udupi district every day. The vaccination process can be completed within three to four months. 20 lakh vaccine is needed for 10 lakh population,” he added.
