CM urged to implement Konkani as medium of instruction for classes 1-5

Bengaluru: A delegation from the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Akademi (Karnataka Konkani Literary Academy) met Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Thursday, December 10 and presented their demands including implementation of Konkani as a medium of instruction for classes 1 to 5 as per the New Education Policy.
The delegation informed that the chief minister had positively responded to their other demands such as making Konkani as one of the medium of instruction from class 6 to post-graduation, courses of Diploma of Education, Bachelor of Education, Master of Education and the phase-wise recruitment of Konkani language teachers for the same.
The delegation added that the New Education Policy also states that primary education must be in the native language of the children.
