Udupi: The discontent within Congress party in the district regarding the seat being given to JD(S)  which does not have any voter base in the district is growing by the day. The infighting is now in the open and the alliance candidate may end up in a tough spot.

Annoyed that the seat was offered to JD(S), AICC member Amrit Shenoy and an aspirant to contest on Congress ticket in the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency is now set to contest as an independent candidate.

As per the alliance agreement between the coalition partners, the Udupi-Chikkamagalur constituency was given to JD(S). But since JD(S) lacks a suitable candidate for the constituency Pramod Madhwaraj of Congress was given the B-Form by JD(S) to contest the election. This having not gone down well with the supporters of Shenoy, they have taken to social media posting messages on social media that Shenoy will contest as an independent candidate.

Having made all preparations to file his nomination as a rebel candidate, industrialist Amrit Shenoy has informed that he will take the decision after consulting his supporters and Congress party workers. Shenoy getting into the fray will definitely affect Congress prospects adversely.

“I have worked day and night for the party. In all the elections that have gone by, I have visited both the districts for campaigning. Though JD(S) has no presence in both the districts, the seat is offered to them. This has caused setback to Congress,” said Shenoy.
