Bantwal: Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers, who were tasked with identifying symptomatic patients and spread awareness about COVID-19, were allegedly abused in Kariyangala Village in Bantwal on Thursday, April 2.
As per sources, Asha workers had visited the house of Abdul Lathif, resident of Kariyangala village to inspect and collected the details of his son-in-law Mohammed Arif who had recently visited Kochi. It is gathered that the house residents abused the Asha workers.
Asha workers complained this incident to gram panchayat, PDO and Bantwal police station. The Panchayat member Suresh Manikanta and Nawaz Basheer held discussions with the house residents and settled the matter. However, MLA Rajesh Naik said that the police department directed to take strict action against people harassing Asha workers
Apparantly, various cases of Asha workers being harassed have been registered across the Karnataka.
