Mangaluru: For the last ten days Dakshina Kannnada district has not reported any positive case of coronavirus owing to the strict implementation of lockdown and quarantine rules by the district administration.

District Deputy Commisssioner Sindhu Rupesh has been a role model herself when it comes to following the quarantine and social distancing rules. Mother to a two-year-old kid, Rupesh has taken all precautions to maintain her distance from other family members at her home since she comes in contact with several people, including doctors, health and other officials during her day-to-day administrative duties.

From day one itself, Sindhu maintained a distance from her child as a safety measure. While she is away at duty her parents take care of the child. Even when Sindhu returns home from the days work she has not gone close to her child for the last 22 days and talks to him only from a distance. There have been times when the baby has cried to come closer to its mother, she says.

Sindhu says that as a DC she needs to visit hospitals, hold daily meetings with officials etc which exposes her to the risk of infection. Precautionary measures such as distancing oneself from other family members is a must for their safety.

On Saturday after chief minister had announced extension of the lockdown in Karnataka she sent away her child to her husband who is residing in Bengaluru.

Not just Sindhu, but Additional deputy commissioner MJ Rupa too doesn’t mingle with her two children, aged below five years for the same reason. She too has sent away her kids to her mother’s residence in Mysuru.

Notably the district administration has been advising people showing symptoms of fever, cough etc to quarntine themselves for a specified period to contain spread of the coronavirus. Social distancing and following hygiene measures too has been advised
