Covid-19 Lockdown in India: The Do-s and Don’t-s

PM Modi has imposed a nationwide lockdown, which is the biggest and most severe action undertaken to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

After the lockdown was imposed, there has been panic and confusion among the people about what it means and how is it going affect their day to day life.

Here is what you should know about the lockdown

Lockdown is an emergency protocol that prevents people from leaving a given area. A full lockdown will mean you must stay where you are and not exit or enter a building.

It allows for essential supplies, grocery stores, pharmacies and banks to continue to serve the people. Only, non-essential activities remain shut for the entire period.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today also appealed to state governments to ensure that rules and regulations of the coronavirus lockdown are enforced as he noted that many people are not taking the measure seriously.

To better understand the impact of the lockdown on everyday life, here are Do-s and Don’t-s

Do-s

  • Stay at home and however, work from home has been allowed for private companies.
  • Wash your hands as much as possible and disinfect surfaces before touching them
  • Self-isolate or visit a doctor immediately if symptoms are visible.
  • Bank, cashiers and ATMs will be operational, but it is better to opt for online banking and if out for groceries make sure to pay through payment apps.
  • Internet and telecommunication services will continue.
  • Journalists and media persons have been exempted and people will be updated with latest news about coronavirus.

Don’t-s

  • Public is being strongly discouraged from going out of their homes unless critical.
  • Under the lockdown, activities such as social gatherings and construction activities are also banned
  • Religious places are closed, and people are not advised to visit.
  • Private offices/factories/workshops have all been closed, people must work from home.
  • International flights have been suspended, so people are not supposed to travel.
  • Public transport including autos, e-rickshaws, taxis, private and government bus services and Metro services have been stopped during this period.
  • Restaurants have been closed or asked to only do takeaway or home delivery for food delivery
  • E-commerce has been widely restricted to only essential commodities
