COVID-19: People throng central market despite total bandh

Mangaluru: Despite complete lockdown in the district, the city’s central market witnessed a large number of people coming out to buy items of daily need in the morning on Saturday, March 28.

District in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary and other higher officials of the district decided to declare a bandh on March 28 due to the rising number of COVID-19 positive cases in neighboring Kasargod district and also in Dakshina Kannada as well as in Uttara Kannada district.

City Commissioner of Police Harsha too in an audio message had requested the people not to come on the road except if there is any medical emergency. “Personal vehicles like motorcycles and cars will not be allowed at any cost. Only trucks supplying essential goods will be allowed to ply on roads,” he added.

However, it looks like people of the city are least bothered about the warnings given by the officials and are also not ready to understand the seriousness of the situation.
