Srinagar: It was a dream come true for two 18-year-old budding footballers from the valley to make the cut to play with Sociedad Deportiva Lenense Proinastur – a third tier football club in Spain.
Thanks to an initiative undertaken by the CRPF looking to channelize the energy of the Kashmiri youth in a more positive and productive manner and tied up with the club to scout for talent at the grassroots level.
While the unrest in the valley since the last four months meant no sports activity, Basit Ahmad and Mohammad Asrar never let their passion die and despite the tough competition got selected. As per the terms of the contract the Spanish club will bear all the expenses of the two youngsters.
“It’s a dream. One can only dream about it. Today this dream is translated into reality,” said Basit Ahmad.
“I had never thought about it. Competition was very tough. I’m happy that Basit got selected. I have also got chance to learn there and give my best,” said Asrar.
Zulfikar Hassan, Inspector general CRPF Kashmir said that it was a matter of great pleasure for the two boys that got selected.
