Jaipur: Curfew was imposed in Malpura area in Rajasthan’s Tonk district today as fresh violence erupted a day after locals pelted stones at Kanwariyas.

“An unruly mob today gathered in the town and torched a shop. We dispersed them and curfew was imposed,” Additional SP Goverdhan Sekaria said.

Members of the minority community had attacked the Kanwariyas while they were passing through a Muslim-dominated area in Malpura yesterday.

The incident led to tension in the area and an angry mob torched a vehicle following which Section 144 of CrPC, which prohibits gathering of crowds, was imposed.

Further details were awaited.
