Driver escapes with Rs 28 lakh cash meant for ATM

Chennai: A driver of a van carrying cash to be filled in a public sector bank’s ATM allegedly escaped with Rs 28 lakh at the airport here, police said today.
Three people, including 37-year-old driver Udaya Kumar, arrived at the airport here last night in the vehicle to fill cash in the ATM, they said.
After the two of them stepped out of the vehicle and proceeded towards the kiosk, the driver suddenly gave the slip with the box containing the cash before abandoning the vehicle at a nearby spot, the police said. A complaint was lodged immediately with the airport police who are investigating the matter, they said.
