Udupi: Swamy Dayanand, animal rights activist and president of the World Animal Welfare Board expressed dissatisfaction over the animal rights in the country.
He said that the central government’s failure to ban export of meat.
Addressing a press meet, Swamiji said, we had a lot of hopes from our PM Narendra Modi and we thought that he would implement a meat ban especially the export of meat. But he hasn’t taken any serious steps on this.
“We want the government to ban export of all types of meat and not only beef. Even the Supreme Court on March 29, 2016 had ordered the central government to ban meat export. When BJP came to power, we hoped that it would enforce the ban, but it has failed,” he said.
“Siddaramaiah took oath as chief minister on the day of Basava Jayanti. Basavanna was against cow slaughter. Siddaramaiah took oath on his birthday, but did not follow Basavanna and immediately withdrew the bill,” he said.
Swamiji asked the State Government to take action against cow slaughter.
