Female pachyderm killed after being hit by lorry at Bandipur; driver, cleaner held

Gundlupet: A female pachyderm died of head injuries it sustained after being hit by a lorry in Maddur range, Bandipur tiger reserve here on Tuesday night.

Forest department officers have arrested lorry driver Ayyappaswamy and cleaner Anand in connection with the case.

The lorry, bearing a Tamil Nadu registration number was speeding when it hit the elephant, aged 25-30 years at around 8.30 pm. The elephant reportedly died on the spot.

The cremation of the elephant was done in the presence of forest veterinary doctor Wasim Mirza and other forest department officials.
