Fish businessman’s murder attempt case: Police arrest five accused

Malpe: Five persons accused in connection to the murder attempt on fish businessman and Farangipet Pudu GP member K Mohammed Riyaz (34) have been arrested in Belur on Monday by Udupi district police.

The arrested are identified as Ismail (45) and his brother Mohammed Gaus (35), Mohammed Kaiser (60), Muneed (25) and Anwar (25), all from Farangipet. The main accused in the case is Ismail, who had given the contract for Riyaz’s murder, inform he police.

The arrested were brought to the city on Tuesday and taken before the court and of the arrested, Ismail, Gaus and Muneed have been taken into police custody for further investigation.

Incident synopsis

Mr Riyaz along with Abdul, Nisar, Javed and Mohiuddin had come in a fish transporting vehicle to Malpe fisheries port regarding fish business on the wee hours of June 7th. On this occasion, the miscreants who had tailed Riyaz’s vehicle, attacked him with swords and fled. The miscreants in question had their faces covered and hence remained unidentified.

Quick operation

The police who took up the investigation created three teams and sent one them to Bengaluru. The police gathered information regarding the accused hiding in Belur and successfully captured them. The car used in the attack has been seized.

Malpe police station SI Madhukar was the investigating officer of the case and the police conducted a quick operation ending with the successful capture of the accused. A case in this regard is registered at Malpe police station.

Reason: Old grudge

The contract on Riyaz’s murder was based on old grudge and his becoming a member of the gram panchayat. Repeated fights have occurred between Riyaz and Ismail led groups regarding fishing business and a floor in Farangipet. Although there were many in the group, Riyaz was specifically targeted since he was also a GP member.

Based on earlier fights, the police had sent a notice to Ismail and during the investigation, he revealed and accepted that he had given the death contract on Riyaz.
