Mangaluru: The state government has not only left the teachers out from the holiday facility on 4th Saturday, but has also cut-off the 5 compensatory leaves (CL) they have as well.

Similar to the union government employees, the state government ordered the announcement of holiday for state government employees on 4th Saturday. But since schools function on the 4th Saturday, this facility is not applicable to the teachers. Even then, similar to the cut-off implemented on others, the 5 CL have been cut-off from the 15CL available for the teachers yearly. Because of this move, more than 2 lakh primary-high school teachers and I lakh PU lecturers as well as the lecturers of degree colleges will be incurring a loss of holidays.

“Now, even though the teachers do not have holiday on 2nd and 4th Saturday, their CL have been reduced to 10. Therefore the CLs must be continued as per earlier,” informs Dr Ramakrishna Shirur, State Vice President, Karnataka State High School Teachers Association

“If the government fails to respond to our demands, the teachers will protest,” informed Karnataka State High School Teachers Association State President H K Manjunath to ‘Udayavani’.

Meeting on 29th: Education Minister

Speaking with ‘Udayavani’ regarding the holiday issue, Primary and High school Education Minister S R Srinivas said, “It has come to my notice that the CL of teachers has been cut-down in the backdrop of the announcement of holiday on 4th Saturday. A teachers meeting has been called for on June 29th to resolve the issue,” he informed.

Any appeal will be forwarded

It is the government’s order to reduce holidays. I cannot speak about it. No request has come from the association to not to cut-off holidays. If they submit an appeal, it will be forwarded to the government – Y Shivaramayya, DDPI, DK

Inspection regarding holiday

Teachers do not have a holiday on 4th Saturday. Complaints have come regarding the cut-down on compensatory leaves, and an inspection will be conducted in this connection – Dr P C Zaffar, Commissioner, Education Department, Bengaluru
