Mangaluru/Udupi: Schools and colleges in the twin coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi will remain closed for 2 days, announced respective district administration.

As the torrential rains lash the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, the IMD has forecast more rainfall due to a low pressure persisting in Arabian Sea and the arrival of early monsoon.

The downpour which started at around 9.30 AM continued for over 7 hours, with no respite in sight. Commuters in the twin district had a harrowing time due to severe traffic snarls. Many areas were inundated and power supply was suspended in inundated areas to ensure safety. Students with their parents and the public had to be ferried at some places.

Good Samaritans offered shelter to those in need. Right wing organisations like RSS even opened helplines to reach out to people in need. Netizens posted updates about traffic diversions and inundated areas on social media
