Kasaragod: NSS volunteers and Anganwadi staff provided significant service to reach disabled voters to the polling booth at various Assemby constituencies during the Lok Sabha voting held in the district on Tuesday.

Close to 100 plus-one students of 19 schools in the district provided their service as NSS volunteers and around 850 anganwadi staffs were successful in reaching disabled voters to the polling booths to cast their franchise. This activity was conducted under the leadership of P Biju, who is the nodal officer for the disabled in integration with the 12 conveners of the 5 Assembly constituencies in the district.

The conveners of the Assembly constituencies carried out the responsibility of the activity though the ARO control room. The 84 sector conveners under them intergrated the activities within the village limits. Anganwadi staffs and NSS volunteers approached the house of the disabled persons and took them to their respective centres from where they were taken to the polling booth in another ambulance.

25 ambulances were pressed into service in the district with the aim to reach the disabled voters to the polling booths. Many of the disabled voters had to be carried in arms from their home to the ambulance.
