Hubbali: The Kobri Hori sport is considered a great crowd puller but they are not free of unfortunate events.

In one such event a bull, named Balaram, drowned in a lake at Sutagatti village of Haveri district on Sunday, December 27.

This tragic incident occurred when Balaram was being chased by the crowd as part of Kobri Hori sport and dashed through a group of bystanders. In order to escape the bull jumped into the lake. It tried to swim but failed and drowned in the lake.

People were outraged that how could the district administration allow such a large gathering amidst the pandemic as it was reported that hundreds had gathered around Sutagatti village to watch the event.

The district police informed that awareness programs are being conducted where people are requested not to conduct large gatherings and that no permission was sought by the organizers of this Kobri Hori event.

He further added that no complaint regarding the same has yet been registered.
