Hubballi: Police fire at POCSO accused in self defense

Hubballi: Hubballi police fired in self-defense at a rape-accused person after he allegedly tried to flee by attacking an inspector with a knife.

The accused, Saddam Hussain had allegedly raped and impregnated a minor girl.

Based on the complaint of the victim’s mother, the police booked Saddam under the POCSO Act.

Police Commissioner Renuka Sukumar formed two teams to arrest Saddam Hussain.

A team led by Inspector Sangamesh arrested Saddam and brought him to the police station for further questioning. At this time, Saddam allegedly tried to assault the constable with a knife. He reportedly proceeded to attack the inspector and the police fired in the air as a warning. However, when he did not heed the warning, they fired him in the left leg as a self-defense measure.

The injured police personnel and the accused are undergoing treatment at Dharwad Civil Hospital.
