Illegal lottery business in Virajpet: Four arrested

Madikeri: Four persons have been arrested for conducting gambling within Virajpet limits based on lottery from Kerala. The arrested are identified as K M Rasheed, Vinod, Samsuddin and M M Moidu.
Although, sale of lottery is banned in Karnataka state, illegal sale of lottery tickets from Kerala used to take place at some places in the town since a few months. In this backdrop, the public gave complaint to the police based on which, simultaneous police raids were conducted at various locations.
The betting used to be done based on the last three numbers of the lottery ticket, inform the cops. Rs 30,780 has been seized from the accused and the search is on for the main accused.
The raids were conucted under the guidance of SP Dr| Suman D Pannekar under the direction of Virajpet sub-division DySP Jaya Kumar,CI Kyategowda and under the leadership of inspector Mariswami. ASI Madayya, Somayya and staffs Sunil, Mohan, Lokesh, Girish, Muneer, Erappa, Ranjan Kumar and driver Yogish were part of the operation.
