Increasing demand for separate Kannada OTT platform

Following Lockdown owing to stop the spread of COVID-19 pandemic, many industries have come to halt. The entertainment industry too impacted by this as film shooting and production have been stopped and screening of movies in cinemas is also banned as well.

There are many digital platforms like Amazon Prime, Netflix, Disney Hotstar are catering movies and original content to the audience. The demand for digital platforms is rising day by day as well.

Despite the demand for more quality Kannada content in these web platforms, the options for the audience are limited in the online platforms.

Many movie lovers and audiences have been thinking about a separate unique platform that features all the Kannada movies and serials like Netflix or Amazon Prime.

Lucia director Pawan Kumar shared a video on social media informing about this new attempt. He has done a survey on the Kannada content and asserted that there is a demand for thriller, action and crime content in Prime Video and Netflix.

Even though filmmakers produce such content and make them available in established platforms, the demand might not be there for Kannada content as they will be competing with much other content from around the world.

In his opinion, if there is a new platform, it will give opportunities to many films and directors. He also shared the thought that, if we collect Rs. 1000 from 0.2% of citizens of Karnataka, we can produce 12 new cinemas in a year and share with the audience for free. With this approach, Both the producers and filmmakers can explore new storytelling and also earn money as well.

Many people have liked this approach and came forward to support Pawan. If such ideas, put into action, the market for Kannada cinemas and web series will definitely grow in the future and will give a platform for newcomers.
