Social distancing is one certain way to fight the spread of the novel coronavirus and all countries are trudging the same way in the absence of a vaccine. But in Karnataka, ensuring social distance has become a challenge.

On Saturday, March 28 people at an Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) market in Gadag were seen flouting the norms of social distancing, despite the 21-day nationwide lockdown being in place for the last four days in wake of coronavirus pandemic to restrict the spread of the deadly virus.

In Haveri, a picture of a group of people sitting a talking outside Janata Bazar was doing rounds on social media. In the picture, people were seen sitting together, while the circles drawn outside the shop to maintain distance was used to keep their bags in order to maintain the queue. However, after the picture went viral the officials clarified that as the people were tired to stand under the sun, they sat in the shade. Later the officials put a tent outside the shop so that people could stand within the circle without any difficulty.

Mangaluru’s city’s central market too witnessed a large number of people coming out to buy items of daily need in the morning on Saturday, March 28.
