Jaimala takes over as the Leader of Upper House in Karnataka

Bengaluru: Minister for Kannada and Culture and Women and Child Development Jaimala on Monday took control over as the Leader of the House in the Legislative Council, after pro tem Chairman Basavaraj Horatti made a formal declaration in view of the proposal of Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy. 

Mr. Horatti additionally declared the names of BJP leaders Kota Srinivas Poojari and Mahantesh Kavatagimath as the new Leader of the Opposition and Chief Whip of the party in the Council, individually. 

Jaimala was assigned as a MLC in June 2014. The actress turned-legislator is the solitary lady Minister in the Janata Dal (S)- Congress coalition government. Her position as Minister, which gave her the chance to lead the government in the Legislative Council, bothered a large number of her party partners, particularly some senior MLCs. She even met the Congress general secretary in-charge for Karnataka, K.C. Venugopal, on Sunday and clarified the circumstance. But, she was guaranteed of all help from the party on her leading the House, sources said.
