Jasmine price falls headlong after Navaratri

Shirva: Shankarapura jasmine, which had seen a drastic rise in demand in the backdrop of Navaratri festival dropped headlong the very next day after the festival.  Come Wednesday, the prices for an Attige or a Jaji of the flowers cost Rs 170 and Rs 50 respectively.

On Sep 29, when Navaratri commenced, the jasmine price was at Rs 1,050 and saw gradual incline in its price for the 8 days to Rs 1,250 on the Ayudha Pooja day. On Vijayadashami, the prices dropped to Rs 630.

Jaji prices also fall

On Sep 30th the price for a Jaji was Rs 28 which later rose to the record highest of the year at Rs 850 per attige on Oct 6th. It was a bumper price for the sellers. Later, the prices fell and reached Rs 220 on Vijayadashami and as of Wednesday, an atige was being sold at as low as Rs 50. Last year, the equivalent price of Jaji jasmine rose to a maximum of Rs 820.

During Nacaratri celebration, Durga and Sharadha goddesses are adorned with jasmine flowers  and hence the prices of jasmine flowers and jaji increase tremendously which did burn many a wallets. Jasmines being sold in outer markets were also costing more than Rs 1,500 per attige.
