Haveri: Superintendent of police K Parashuraam, due to pressure from the public and the media, transferred Hangal PSI Gururaj Mailar to the intelligence wing on Monday as a disciplinary action against him for carrying journalist Mounesh Potharaj’s body in a garbage van that belonged to Hangal Town Municipal Council. The circle police inspector Revappa Kattimani is also given a notice for failing to handle the issue.
In a press release, Gururaj Mailar had defended the act saying that there was no availability of vehicle and had instructed Shiggavi DSP Lakshman Shirakol to conduct an inquiry over carrying Potharaj’s body in Garbage van. He said that the action was made based on DSP report.
In the meantime, Human Rights Defenders Forum has demanded for strict action against the Haveri district administration for transporting Potharaj’s body in a garbage van. The forum’s general secretary Adarsh G K said that the act was in violation of Article 21 of the Constitution and that they have already written to the Karnataka State Human Rights Commission demanding for an action.
