Ghaziabad: Journalists today expressed their displeasure against District Magistrate Ritu Maheshwari after an FIR was registered against two TV channels for allegedly running a news report claiming she had taken bribe to allow construction of shops in residential areas.

A number of journalists termed the FIR “misuse of power”. They decided to hand over a memorandum to the commissioner of Meerut zone and vowed to continue their protest until the case against the TV channels is withdrawn.

The editors of both the channels said the FIR was an attempt to suppress the freedom of the press. The FIR was registered on April 28.
