Karkala: Theft case accused arrested from Madikeri

Karkala: An accused on run from the law in a theft case in Karkala has been arrested, police said.
The accused, Mohammed Iqbal (54), a native of Vijayanagara in Hassan was arrested from Madikeri. He was wanted in the case of Rs 1.45 lakh cash theft that took place at Dhwani Hardware shop located at Manjushree building opposite TMA Pai hospital on Karkala Bypass road, in June 2022.
During interrogation, Mohammed reportedly confessed to have carried out the theft in association with his relative Ibrahim and his uncle Noora, both residents of Kargal in Sagar Taluk of Shivamogga.
Of the accused, Noora has already been arrested and is currently lodged at Udupi prison. Ibrahim is still at large, police added.
Meanwhile, Iqbal was produced before the court. Police said he had several run-ins with the law, with theft cases registered against him at several police stations of Uttara Kannada, Hubbali, Chitradurga, Chikkamalauru, Mysuru, and Bengaluru.
