Karnataka crosses 1000 mark with 69 new positive cases

With 69 new positive cases, the Covid-19 infection tally crossed the 1,000-mark in Karnataka on Friday. Now, the total tally is 1056 with 36 deaths.

Out of the 69 new cases, 20 are expatriates who returned to the state from Dubai as part of the first phase of Vande Bharat mission.

Other cases confirmed on Friday, 16 from Dakshina Kannada, 13 are from Bengaluru, 5 from Udupi, 4 from Bidar, 3 from Hassan, 2 from Chitradurga, and one case each from Shivamogga and Bagalkote.

Around 177 people and two infants had landed at the Mangaluru airport late night on May 12 in an Air India Express flight. 15 of them in Dakshina Kannada district and five in Udupi have been tested positive for Covid-19.

In Mandya and Hassan, 20 and 13 people have been tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday and out of the infected many are those who returned from Mumbai.

Meanwhile, Number of Covid-19 infected patients are rising in Bidar. One more death was reported in Bidar on Friday. The deceased is a 52-year-old male resident of Bidar.

However, Mysuru recorded a 100 per cent recovery in Mysuru District Hospital, a dedicated Covid-19 hospital in the state. All the 90 COVID-19 positive patients admitted to Mysore District Hospital have been discharged without any deaths recorded.

Karnataka Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar in a tweet said, “There is no trace of community transmission in Karnataka. 25% of cases trace back to dom & intl travel history & 7% cases hv comorbidities. Avg daily growth in state is 5.4% while its 11.8% for country. With positivity rate of 1% there is 1 case for every 100 tests”
