Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has clarified on Friday that no dry, dead lakes in Karnataka denotified by the state government amid severe water shortage in most of the districts. The decision came in the wake of objections and criticism from the public and opposition party members against government’s previous move to denotify dead, dry lakes in Karnataka.

Reacting to a letter from Union Minister DV Sadananda Gowda on the denotification issue, chief minister tweeted the matter on his twitter account and said his government has no proposal to denotify any dry/dead lake in Karnataka instead it would take measures to fill up dry lakes with water.

According to the some senior opposition party leaders and general public, denotification of lakes could not only impact the local ecology, but also help land mafia, land encroachers to expand their grip further.
