Kaup: A huge fire broke out in a paddy field at the Uchila-Yermal border next to National Highway NH-66 on Thursday night.
The blaze soon spread to dry grass on about half an acre of land. There was a sense of panic as locals’ efforts to douse the flames were in vain.
When the fire went out of control, the fire tenders from Udupi were called in. The fire brigade personnel who rushed to the spot put out the fire, averting a major tragedy.
