Bellare: The bus stop at Kavina Moole along Bellare-Sullia road has been standing erect thanks to the support provided by a single pole since three years. The bus stop is located a kilometer from the Sullia-Bellare main road within the limits of Bellare Gram Panchayat. This bus stop is used by college students as well as the public. But, when one sits inside the bus stop and gazes up, then one will realize that the responsibility of supporting the entire roof of the bus stop is being carried out by a single pole.

Local youths gifted the name board for this bus stop. Three years ago, the wooden truss work of the roof of the bus stop suffered damage and was at verge of collapsing. Observing this, the locals pushed in a pole to stabilize the structure and prevent it from collapsing. Several passengers, school and college students rest in wait for the bus towards Sullia and Bellare at the very bus stop.

Dangerous during monsoon

Though there is a valid danger of the roof collapsing during the monsoon due to rain and wind, three years have passed with no one coming forward to repair it. Witnessing the solitary pole taking on the might of the roof, passengers waiting for the bus prefer to stand on the roadside instead of sitting within the precarious structure. At least this year before the monsoon, the concerned people could in the least rectify the structure by installing cement sheets and thereby provide proper seating facility for the weary passenger.  Besides, motorists riding via Bellare-Sullia road take shelter within the very bus stop in case of severe rains. In such a situation, the concern of a possible calamity cannot be ignored.

Action post inspection

“The bus stop will be inspected and the decision will be taken during the regular panchayat meeting. If the structure is on the verge of collapsing, it will be repaired immediately,” said Dhananjaya K R , PDO, Bellare GP

Get it repaired

”It is surprising that that though it has been observed that the bus stop is standing on the support of a single pole since three years, no one has come forward for its repair. The bus stop should be repaired before this time’s monsoon and the facility must be provided for the passengers to sit,” urged Praveen Kavina Moole, a local
