Sholayur: In a heart-warming gesture, a police officer gifted a cycle to a Class 3 boy who was accused of stealing his neighbor’s new cycle.

The incident took place earlier this month and the story was shared on Facebook by Latheef Attappadi, a shopkeeper in Palakkad’s Sholayur.

Reportedly, a boy of 3rd class had taken his neighbor’s new cycle to his house as he had a desire to ride it. The neighbors filed a complaint of theft against the child and then the police inquired about the matter and they found that the kid just wanted to ride the bicycle.

The police returned the cycle to its owner. The SHO of Sholayur police station Vinod Krishna was moved by the incident and bought the boy a new cycle from the shop of Latheef.

“His childish desire to ride a bicycle had made the child take his neighbour’s brand new bicycle. The issue, however, soon escalated into a complaint of theft with the neighbour going to the police accusing the boy of theft. Though police settled the issue amicably, Vinod Krishna, the Station House Officer of the Sholayur police station was deeply moved by the incident and decided to buy him a new bicycle. For that he came to my shop,” Latheef wrote on his facebook page.

The cop shared with the shopkeeper how he too had humble beginnings and why he empathized with the boy.

“After talking with him, I realised his experience and goodwill. He shared the story of how he did not have a cycle while he was a student. I also recalled my experience of having to rent out a bicycle since I couldn’t own one. The experience of deprivation is the same everywhere,” the shopkeeper added.

Latheef then urged the cop to not pay for the cycle.

He said, “Though there may be complaints against police officers, we can always take pride that such officers with a good heart are there for our protection. I salute the CI of Sholayur police station Vinod Krishna and his colleagues, who were instrumental in making the child happy.”
