Karkala: Education isn’t just about learning maths or science at school, it’s about gaining the knowledge and the skills needed to better ourselves and the world we live in. One such example being a government school at Nalluru which not only imparts academic lessons to the students but helps them be a better human being by organizing various activities.

In order to impart practical knowledge to students regarding agriculture and waste management, the Headmaster, teaching and non-teaching staffs of Nalluru government school along with other concerned officials come up with many unique ideas.

Herbal and flower gardens:

The school is growing 115 types of herbal plants and different types of flower plants. In these gardens, the students learn the importance of cleanliness and greenery in their day-to-day life and also the medicinal uses of these plants.

Trees named after poets, scholars:

The trees inside the campus are named after famous poets and scholars of Karnataka thus students get to learn about the trees and as well as famous personalities.

Books instead of sweets for birthdays:

If anybody likes to celebrate their birthday in this school they are not allowed to distribute sweets instead one should donate books to the library. ‘Odukolli library’ of the school has over 40 thousand books now.

Sound body playground:

The staff of the school believes that physical health is very important to students’ wellbeing and therefore have built a playground called ‘sound body’ at a cost of Rs 7 lakh.

Other extracurricular activities:

Apart from gardening, the students are also made to learn Bharatnatyam, tailoring, music, etc.

Parashurama kutira:

In this room, the students are taught in a gurukul system where students can meditate and reflect on themselves.
