Kasargod: Two leaders of the ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) from Kasargod district have been arrested in connection with the murder of two Youth Congress workers in February of this year.

The arrested have been identified as Manikandan and Balakrishnan. The State Crime Branch police on Tuesday arrested them following their detailed questioning by the Crime Branch team. So far a total of 13 persons have been arrested by the police. Another suspect has reportedly fled the country.

Krupesh, 19, and Sarath Lal, 24, were assaulted with lethal weapons at Perya on February 17 in a suspected case of political rivalry. While Krupesh died at the Kasaragod district hospital, Sarath succumbed to his injuries on way to a Mangaluru hospital.

The murder has been turned into a major election issue with Congress President Rahul Gandhi even paying a visit to the houses of slain youth Congress workers and assuring them of justice diring his visit here recently.
