Difference in fulfilling new bus requirement

Bantwal: KSRTC is the connection for people in the rural areas with the urban and a difference has been observed in the fulfillment of new buses with B C road depot facing a shortage of 4 regular buses. There are altogether 114 buses at the depot and although 5 additional buses are required here, only one is available.

Even though new buses are not turning up, the number of buses which are not fit for use are on the rise. Around 9 months ago, 4 new buses arrived to BC road depot and since then, no new buses have turned up. This problem is plaguing throughout the state and this is causing trouble to depots with limited number of additional buses.

The 114 buses at B C road ply along 112 routes. In 2017, five new buses from BC road depot started functioning between BC road-Kasaragod route and presently, all the buses are making 12 trips from either directions.

Depending on night buses

Presently, there is only one additional bus at BC road depot plying along the normal routes and in case any bus malfunctions, the situation is so bad that the entire trip needs to get cancelled. Due to this, buses travelling long distances in the night like Bengaluru and other locations have been deputed for morning trips as well and they function between Statebank – Vitla, Statebank – Puttur and similar routes in order to fulfill the demand.

More conditioned buses are required for long distance routes but, if the buses are being run day and night, the number of kilometers travelled will increase drastically and the possibility of them coming to a halt soon also increases, inform sources.

5 Rajahamsa, 4 sleeper

BC road depot has altogether 5 Rajahamsa buses which ply along 4 routes. Which means there is one additional bus. Besides, 4 non-AC sleeper buses ply as well of which 2 go to Bengaluru via Puttur and 2 go to the same destination via Dharmasthala. But, BC road depot does not have A C Sleeper bus.

4 buses required

Presently there are 114 buses at BC road depot and there is only one additional bus. Hence, the depot requires 4 additional buses. Buses mean for night travelling are being used in the day as well to provide continuous services – Shreesha Bhat, Depot Manager, KSRTC, BC road
