K’taka HC stops Karwar port expansion works

Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Thursday, November 20 stopped all works being conducted in the second stage of expansion of Karwar port.

The division bench of Chief Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka and Justice S Vishwajith Shetty issued the order on a public interest petition by the Baithkol Bandaru Nirashrithara Yantrikruta Dhoni Meenugarara Sahakara Sangha.

The division bench said that until the bench is satisfied by the clearance given by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) the works cannot continue. Adding that it will permit the KSPCB to review its clearance for the works.

The bench adjourned the matter to December 1.
